The walled Garden

About

Step through the gates of the Walled Garden, Helen's Bay as part of the European Heritage Open Day 2025 experience.

Nestled within the grounds of a former 19th-century Mill House, this secret garden is being lovingly restored with sustainability and heritage at its heart. Join a short guided tour and talk led by the owners James and Lorraine Small, who will share the fascinating story of the garden’s past, present and future.

Learn how traditional craftsmanship, ecological principles, and community spirit are coming together to breathe new life into this once-forgotten space. Discover the layers of history embedded in the walls, the gardeners' cottages, and the restored glasshouse. Hear how original features are being carefully conserved using local skills and materials.

Whether you're a heritage enthusiast or garden lover, this is a rare opportunity to see a unique restoration project in progress and to be inspired .

We intend to include a garden talk and tour on Saturday 13th Sept from 11am - 12pm limited to 40 persons. The property will open to the general public from 10.30am -1.00pm and the owners will be available for discussion, questions etc
