Sperrins Walking Weekend - Wonders of the Bog

About

Moneyneaney (Moin na nIonadh literally ‘Bog of Wonder’ in Irish) is a place ‘in the middle’, which many visitors to the Sperrins pass through on the road east or west.

This challenging walk starts on minor roads, transitioning to minor tracks and finally takes to the open hills above this homely village to get an overview of this microcosm of the Sperrins landscape. This circular route uses part of the Crockbrack Way – Slí Cnocbreac – taking in Crockmore- Cnoc Mór, Crockbrack- Cnoc Breac itself and Craigbane- Carraig Bán, which boundary the village of Moneyneaney to the south. It is suitable for walkers with a good level of fitness and some past hill-walking experience over open country.

The views are spectacular, taking in the area’s varied geomorphology and historic land-use patterns. This  human imprint on ‘the Bog’ explain what makes the past and present features in this landscape so unique.

Starting point - Shepherds Rest, Draperstown - 9am
