Open Day at Tullymurry House EHOD 2025

About

To celebrate European Heritage Open Days 2025, Tullymurry House near Newry will be open on Sunday 14th September from 10:00 to 16:00. This is a free event where visitors can explore this elegant Georgian house with its long history and carefully preserved interiors. Discover how the building has been sensitively conserved and enjoy wandering the grounds of this peaceful rural retreat.

Irish Landmark Trust is a non-profit organisation that finds interesting and unusual properties that are in need of conservation, and gives them a sustainable new life. Since 1992, we've been turning historic buildings into truly special self-catering holiday accommodation.

Our properties range from lighthouses and schoolhouses to castles and gate lodges. Tullymurry House is a lovely family sized country house situated in pretty gardens and surrounded by 52 acres of arable farmland that is primarily used for grazing dairy cattle. This property is now available as holiday accommodation and sleeps 8 people in very elegant surroundings. The oldest part of the house, originally Tullymurry Cottage, is at least 350 years old and was probably built at the time of the 'Settlement'. The present kitchen and the downstairs bedroom were the next additions in around 1700.

The front wing of the house was added in the late C18th, possibly around 1780 for the Weir family and is classically Georgian with its symmetrical 5 bay façade, central doorway and 12 pane sash windows. The earliest known occupant of Tullymurry was a Dr Weir, the local doctor who held his surgery in the present kitchen.

Tullymurry House is the perfect county house retreat set at the end of its own long drive with beautiful gardens and even its own orchard where you can pick and enjoy the fruit. The local House Manager will be at the property all day to answer questions and provide information on the building. There will also be a free leaflet available that will provide information on the history of the building and the restoration process.
