Greencastle Tour EHOD 2025

About

An archaeological walk including the Royal Castle at Greencastle, medieval church, mound and cist grave site.

A Royal castle built in the mid 13th century by Hugh de Lacy to control the southern approach into Ulster. Greencastle was a key fortification for over 400 years and was repeatedly besieged, relieved and repaired before falling into ruins after bombardment by Cromwell’s troops in 1652. The castle is prominently situated on rocky outcrop close to Greencastle Point.
