Based at the foot of the Sperrin mountain range there is an abundance of hiking options and walking trails to suit all ages and levels within the local area including the Gortin Glens which is only a 15 min drive and also offers mountain bike trails.

This is a fantastic spot for those visiting Strabane or the local area for fishing as the town itself is only 5 mins away. It offers you everything you will need from shopping to restaurants and bars and the local tourist information office is a great starting point to discover everything that is happening in the area.

The beautiful County of Donegal is just 10mins away and within one hour of its world famous pristine beaches where you can brave the cold and take a dip in its crystal clear waters, hire out a kayak or for the more adventurous type surf in one of the many fantastic surfing spots. Here you will discover why National Geographic voted the Wild Atlantic Ways Donegal region as the coolest place to visit in 2017 The Giants Causeway and UNESCO World Heritage Site is 1hr15min drive.

No trip to the North of Ireland would be complete without visiting what the Irish call ‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ and nearly 1 million tourists a year visit here.

The city of Derry/Londonderry which is steeped in hundreds of years of history right up to the current day is a 25min drive away or you can easily catch a bus there from Strabane. It has everything you could wish to find, from shopping centres to boutique shops, restaurants and bars, museums and tours of the historic city walls which where built in the early 1600s.

So if you are planning a quiet getaway, visiting relatives, looking to explore the area and it’s history or have a fun packed holiday Ligford cottage is your ideal starting spot

The City of Derry airport is 40mins from the cottage or if coming from either Belfast airports it is 1hr20mins, Dublin airport is 2hrs20mins. Strabane’s main bus terminal is 10 mins drive away and you can arrive/depart here from all major airports and towns. There is plenty of on-site parking
