About
With Jane Cassidy, Maurice Leyden and Paul Clements
Folk singers Jane Cassidy and Maurice Leyden team up with the writer Paul Clements, author of Richard Hayward's biography, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the death of the renowned singer and actor on 13 October 1964.
As a flamboyant personality Hayward was a household name in Ulster and one of Ireland's best-loved cultural figures of the mid-20th century, but his name has since been forgotten. He was brought up in Larne, Co. Antrim, and, as a man of many parts, he was by turns a successful actor, director, filmmaker, travel writer, broadcaster, musician and singer.
This performance merges cultural history and music featuring more than 20 traditional songs recorded and sung by Hayward. It will be enhanced by rare archive photographs and promises to be a delightful afternoon of story and song. Tribute will be paid to the remarkable contribution Hayward made to cultural life through his books, films and especially his Irish folksongs and ballads. In the eyes of many, he lit the fields of Ireland with a brilliant light.
