Samhain: Search for the Seven Sisters

About

Experience Samhain at OM Dark Sky Park and Observatory this Halloween, as we take you on a walk through the darkness of Davagh forest in search of the Seven Sisters.

Samhain marks the beginning of the dark half of the year, which is aligned with the return of the Pleiades star cluster in our night sky. The Pleiades is also known as the Seven Sisters and in Irish sometimes referred to as 'little flock'. Birds were believed to be messengers to the Otherworld and have an important ancient cultural link to our night sky.

As we look for the stars of the Seven Sisters walking through the forest, we will visit the ancient Davagh Stone Circles and see how our ancestors viewed the night sky. You will then return to OM for a special Samhain themed outdoor film projection, and if skies are clear, you will also be able to observe the beautiful Pleiades star cluster using a telescope.

The walk will be approximately 4km. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Dress weather appropriate as this event is outdoors.

Please advise when booking if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies.
