The Clearer Water Antrim Coast Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile road race and 1 mile street race for adults and kids, held on the last Bank holiday in August. The race is a World Athletics Elite Label road race held on large parts of the Antrim Coast Road, a UNESCO world heritage site, and is based in the town of Larne, Co. Antrim. The event will be held over 3 days in 2023, with Condor Executive Classic Street Mile races held on the Friday evening this year, in addition to the main race which will be held on the Sunday morning.
With its flat and fast course, the race is one of the fastest half marathons in the world and offers the best of town and coastal running. Starting at the beginning of the iconic Antrim Coast Road, the course sweeps into Larne Harbour and through Larne town before moving onto the world famous Antrim Coast Road. The coast’s stunning landscapes feature in many movies and television series, including HBO’s Game of Thrones, who used the area extensively as a filming location.
The 2023 edition sees last year's men's winner Jemal Yimmer return to defend his title, and welcomes 6X World Champion Genzebe Dibaba to make her Antrim Coast debut in the women's race. And with more of the world's best taking part, it's shaping up to be one of the best half marathon's in the world this year.
Five time Olympian Jo Pavey is also set to return this year pacing the 2-hour group, and former European Cross Country Champion Gemma Steel will also return to pace the 1 hr 30 minute group, and local runners will have the opportunity to pace with the stars.
The Condor Executive Classic Street Mile Race will see a serious attempt at setting the first sub-4-minute-mile on the road in Ireland with World junior Champion Ermias Girma joining the race. Runners are being offered the opportunity to pit themselves against the very best in the world with adults and children all being encouraged to sign up.
The finale to the weekend will be the 'Live Lounge' music event held in Larne Market Yard and head lined by former Spandau Ballet front man Tony Hadley.
