About

Immerse yourself in the history of Glenarm Castle and its renowned Walled Garden as George, the Castle Butler, takes you on a guided tour.

Nestled in the natural beauty of the Glens of Antrim, you’ll find the ancestral home of the McDonnell family, Earls of Antrim, and one of Northern Ireland’s most historic family houses. With over 500 years of history and heritage, the McDonnells are also descended from the ancient Kings of Dalriada, while Glenarm Castle itself was built by Randal McDonnell, 1st Earl of Antrim in 1636. From unique artefacts to tantalising secrets, you’ll hear the intricate living history behind the family who live here; all brought to life by George, your guide and the Castle Butler.

The tour of Glenarm Castle and Garden gives you an exclusive opportunity to peek behind-the-scenes, see real treasures from the Girona shipwreck off Dunluce Castle in 1588, and hear about George’s own account working as the family butler. George has held this prestigious position for nearly 20 years, so you know he’s got some stories to tell!

Your tour also includes a peaceful stroll through the Walled Garden, bursting with colour throughout the summer season. If you’ve got a keen eye and green fingers, your interest will be piqued by the exciting flowers and specimen plants that flourish around you.

And then, it’s time for a most civilised afternoon tea. Relax in the family dining room as George serves you Champagne and a delicious cream tea. To cap this wonderful day off, George saves some of his best stories for last, but we won’t spoil the ending here.
