About

At this artistic workshop you’ll be working towards the creation of your own masterpiece, which will always remind you of your time spent on the beautiful Causeway Coast.

You’ll be met by the artist, Frankie, at her studio. You’ll have time to get to know each other and the other guests over tea with homemade scones and jam. Frankie will then give you an outline of the experience, including a brief presentation on the intuitive process of 'mark-making' (the use of various lines, dots, marks and patterns to create an artwork).

Next you’ll collect your own art kit and move just 100m outside, to the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. Here Frankie will take you through a brief history of the local landmarks, from the lifeboat house all the way along the coast to the Giant's Causeway, visible in the distance.

Frankie will help you to fully connect with the environment. She’ll encourage you to be present in the moment and to engage all your senses. She’ll then demonstrate the practice of onsite visual recording. During the next 25 minutes by the sea you will explore and record your observations.

Back in the studio (after a warming cup of tea or coffee), you will engage in a group exercise to encourage creative thinking and reduce inhibitions. A range of materials, tools and techniques used for the mark-making process will be demonstrated. Then you will have the opportunity to experiment and intuitively explore your own 'mark-making' process.

Finally you will draw together elements from your onsite visual research, group work, experimentation, personal creativity and intuition to inform your own final painting. Reflection on the experience and viewing of the artworks will complete the workshop.
You’ll leave with the best of all souvenirs: the one you made yourself.
