About

Kirkistown Castle Golf Club is situated in the sleepy little village of Cloughey on the eastern seaboard of the Ards Peninsula in County Down, N.Ireland. It is the nearest links golf course to the city of Belfast (about 45 minutes by road) and is uniquely, the most easterly 18 hole golf course on the island of Ireland.

Our current membership consists of approximately 800 members across various categories from the young and young at heart, to the golfing fanatics as well as those who simply enjoy the food, drink and great craic that makes our Club atmosphere so enticing.

The present course lay-out was designed by James Braid in 1934 and it has stood the test of time. The elevated tees and greens are a particular feature here giving Kirkistown Castle an envious reputation as a challenging test of golf for even the lowest of handicappers. The Course offers ‘The Open’ style of links golf where strategic play is a must in order to get close to the challenging course Par 69, bearing in mind its 6,167 yards is longer than many courses with a Par 71. With the quick-drying nature of our links terrain, the course is rarely closed and even in the case of heavy rainfall it dries out very quickly thereafter.

The signature hole is the Par 4 10th; at 435 yards it is reputed to be one of the most difficult Par 4s in Irish golf.

The wonderful variety of holes will test every facet of your golf game and, being situated on the Irish Sea coast, wind is usually another ‘hazard’ to be added to those already on the course. Every day presents a new challenge so whether a first-time Visitor or a seasoned Member, you will enjoy a unique round every time you play here.

Course facilities also include a practice ground, two practice greens for pitching, putting green and swing net.

It is fair to say that Kirkistown Castle Golf Course is a jewel in the County Down crown of links golf; experience the magic that is Irish Links golf at its finest here.

Whether member or guest, everyone is most welcome to come and experience our wee corner of the world – we very much look forward to welcoming you.
