About

Flanked by the wild North Atlantic Ocean and a landscape of dramatic cliffs, the Giant's Causeway is a geological wonder and home to a wealth of history and legend. The 40,000 basalt stone columns left by volcanic eruptions 60 million years ago, has captured the imagination of all who see it.

The Giant's Causeway is steeped in myths and legend. The setting is a spectacular, dyanamic coastal landscape of Atlantic waves, rugged cliffs, fascinating geological antiquity, secluded bays and magnificent views. It forms a jagged headland of neatly packed columns which point towards Scotland. Visitors can walk along the basalt columbs which are at the edge of the sea, just over 1km from the entrance to the site.

Giant's Causeway Visitor Experience tickets include hourly guided tours with a member of the award-winning storytelling team, use of audio guides available in 11 different languages, access to interpretation and exhibition areas, the shop and cafe, use of all facilities, including the loan of accessibility equipment, and reserved on-site parking.

When to visit

The Giant's Causeway is a popular destination, particularly during peak times, such as Bank Holidays and throughout the summer months.

For the best rates, pre-book your Visitor Experience tickets in advance via the official Giant's Causeway website prior to travelling to the site. Pre-booking helps the team to prepare for your arrival and to spread visitor numbers more evenly throughout the day, improving everyone's experience.

National Trust Members and Local Pass Holders gain free access, however pre-booking is strongly recommended for everyone.

The Giant's Causeway Clifftop Experience is a unique opportunity to see Northern Ireland's iconic World Heritage Site from a different perspective. Beginning at Dunseverick Castle and ending on the world-famous stones, the walk covers 5 miles of wild and rugged coastal scenery, along grass and gravel paths. As you walk, you can listen to the stories of the Giant's Causeway and learn about the history and geology of the coastline from a knowledgable guide.
