Silver Street (The River Inn)

About

The River Inn is Derry's oldest sited bar, established in 1684, with its history stretching back to before the siege. At the time it fulfilled the three requirements to obtain an Inn's licence; namely permission to sell punch, provide accommodation and to stable horses.

Steeped in history its cellars were used in 1798 to hold Wolfe Tone on his way to execution in Dublin after his capture in Donegal. The original cellars have been converted into the Cellar bar.

The River Inn has been run by the Doherty Family for over 40 years. It has always provided a warm friendly atmosphere, good food and "great craic". The family, who are also owners of the old palace cinema next door to the inn, decided to extend the bar into the old cinema and create a new complex of bars incorporating The Cellar bar, The Snug and a brand new bar called after the original name of Shipquay Street: 'Silver Street'. A fresh and creative food menu is available seven days a week. At night there is regular, local live entertainment.

Fronting the new ‘Silver Street’ bar will be The Cafe bar. A place to watch the world go by while sampling a selection of teas, coffees and home-made fare

Enjoy the experience.
