  • Lesson in traditional Irish bread and traybake making

Meet your host, Tracey

I decided to run the Traditional Irish Breadmaking and Traybaking sessions for the independent traveller and for the domestic market. I was very keen to offer a truly authentic experience for guests – an experience that was different from the usual Food Tour.

It’s a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. I have international and local guests on these sessions and that’s great for both, as the craic is good and our tourists enjoy chatting to the local people of this area. I love welcoming guests to my house and offering an immersive experience that focuses on our food culture. I am fortunate to live in a very beautiful and unspoilt part of Northern Ireland.

What to expect

A hands-on culinary experience with delicious rewards.

Step into Tracey's 18th century thatched barn on the spectacular shores of Strangford Lough to experience a day of authentic Irish baking. This charming home is as beautiful inside as are the stunning landscapes that surround it outside.

Upon arrival, you'll receive tea and coffee, as well as a warm Irish welcome from your host. Then, get ready to start baking as you're shown how to make a delicious delicacy known as Irish Fruit Soda Cake. With that in the oven, prepare for a taste of heritage as you learn how to make staple Irish history food items; Potato and Soda bread. These delectable goods will be enjoyed with handmade butter, dulse butters, jams and your choice of tea or coffee.

No traditional baking class would be complete without a sweet treat - or traybake as we like to call them. You'll be given the expertise and ingredients to whip up something special for your sweet tooth - the perfect way to end a delicious day.

What's included

This experience includes the day spent in your hosts home where you will be given all the ingrediants, aprons, and tools needed to successfully make a range of delicious recipes. You will get to bake two different types of bread and fruit soda cake followed by the making of a traybake. Additional extras such as butters, jams, tea, and coffee will all be provided by the host.

Furthermore, you will be given a bag filled with your baked goods and recipes on how to recreate them at home.
