Below you'll find all information relating to parking, travel and public transport options relating to the 2024 Amgen Irish Open at Royal County Down.

By Foot

If you are staying in Newcastle, walking is the easiest way to access the event. The main public entrance is located on Golf Links Road, close to the Main Entrance to the Royal County Down and there will be signage and volunteers on hand to assist.

By Bike

If cycling to the event there will be provision to lock your bike close to the main entrance.

By Car

If using sat nav, only use this until you see the event signage. Then follow the designated routes:

From the North/Belfast:

All traffic will be directed via the A24 south to Clough. Park and Ride traffic will be directed right onto Castlewellan Road A25. Then left in Castlewellan onto Newcastle Road to the park and ride sites. Labelled traffic will continue on the A2 and pick up the signs for their designated car parks.

From the South/Dublin:

All traffic will be directed to come off the A1 at either Newry A28 or Downpatrick A25. From there pick up the signs to the designated Park & Ride, Park & Walk, and labelled car parks.

Event Parking

All parking for the event is free, with labelled car park holders parking in Car Parks 1 – 5. Spectators without a valid car park pass are directed to use the free park and ride and park and walk sites detailed below.

Public transport

Goldliner and Ulsterbus Services (Belfast - Newcastle & Newry - Newcastle)

Normal timetabled 237 Belfast to Newcastle Goldliner services will be available. Services leaving Belfast will depart from Adelaide Street, City Centre.

Services from Newcastle will arrive at Linenhall Street, City Centre. Passengers are advised to check the timetable and leave extra time for their journey.

The 520 Ulsterbus service will operate between Belfast Adelaide Street to Newcastle bus station departing from 07.30 Wednesday 11th -Friday 13th, 08.00 on Saturday 14th September and 08.35 on Sunday 15th September.

Please check journey planner for return journeys to align with the conclusion of the golf each day.

Normal timetabled 240 Downpatrick to Newry Goldliner services will be available.

Park & Ride (Newcastle)

Translink will operate a free Park & Ride service from Northfield on the Castlewellan Road, to Downs Road Car Park and return.

The free Park & Ride shuttle bus will run continuously throughout each day of the tournament:

Wednesday 11th Sept: 07.00 – 19.45
Thursday 12th - Sunday 15th Sept: 06.45 – 19.45

The buses will drop spectators close to the venue in Newcastle Town and pick up again from the same location. The last bus is scheduled to depart the Town for the park and ride site at 19:45 on each of the event days. 

Passengers are advised to allow 5 minutes journey time once our vehicle departs the Park and Ride site. However, this may be longer subject to traffic and congestion in the area.

Cairnshill Park & Ride / Park & Share

Free car parking is available at Cairnshill Park & Ride. Ulsterbus services pick-up and set-down at the Primrose Hill stop on the Saintfield Road. Cairnshill Park & Ride will be open 24 hrs 11-15th September.

NI Railways

Normal scheduled NI Railways services will operate during the period of the tournament. Spectators are encouraged to travel by train and make their onward journey to Newcastle with Ulsterbus.  Full details available on the Translink Journey Planner.

Coach from Newry Train Station – Buy Online

Scheduled Enterprise services will operate during the period of the tournament. 

A special buy online coach service will operate Wednesday 11th – Sunday 15th  from Newry Train Station to Newcastle Bus Station at times below.  This service connects in Newry Train Station with the 06.50 Enterprise ex Dublin (arr. Newry 08.15) and the 20.30 Enterprise ex Portadown (dept Newry 20.53). Visit Amgen Irish Open (translink.co.uk) to purchase an online special.

There are a limited number of spaces for the free Park & Walk at Donard Park. For Access to this car park, please follow AA & VMS directional signage which will direct you to the access via Shan Slieve Drive, located off Tullybrannagan Road:
