About
Building on the record-breaking 7000 visitors during EHOD 2024 – probably the largest EHOD attraction within NI - the Ulster Aviation Society ('UAS') are again giving the public free access to the amazing pair of authentic Second World War hangars and their growing heritage aircraft & vehicle collection, raising awareness of the site's cultural significance and heritage, along with its educational benefit across the community.
The heritage collection currently includes 50+ aircraft and vehicles ranging from vintage Second World War fighters through Cold War era and modern fast jets, helicopters, Shorts designed & built aircraft, Irish Air Corps, civilian aircraft, engines, vehicles, Aviation Library, Royal Observer Corps, and Aircrew Life Support Equipment.
There will be many aircraft outside their two hangars for the first time (weather-permitting), including the latest arrivals. Try out the 'UAS Digital Experiences' within their 7 new, state-of-the-art Flight Simulators. Also try their 6 VR Headsets and experience what it's like to fly in VR with the RAF Red Arrows, whilst actually sitting in a real Red Arrows' Hawk fastjet. Come and wander around (and get into many of) their various aircraft - both Indoor and Outdoor - plus their multiple display rooms internally. Children will enjoy collecting and wearing multiple Stickers available for them finding and sitting in various planes and helicopters.
Volunteer Tour Guides will also be on hand to tell you interesting stories at various aircraft. There may be some restoration work going on at the back of Hangar 2 as well, to give a flavour of what some of their Volunteers do. Mobile catering companies will be on-site during the weekend for Teas, Coffees & Refreshments, Ice Cream etc.
