About
Born in Oxford, Michael Dolley (1925–1983) was a renowned numismatist and historian, particularly known for his work on Anglo-Saxon, Irish, and Manx coins.
Numismatic collections hold artistic, social, cultural, and political value. These collections are important as they can help trace the rapid development of civilian life in the shadow of war and more peaceful times. The Ulster Museum holds a vast numismatic collection with over 50,000 materials including coins, tokens, banknotes, medals and more.
Enjoy talks from Dr Kristin Bornholdt Collins on 'Making Waves: Dolley and the Vikings in Dublin, Belfast and the Isle of Man', Dr John Rainey on 'Personal Recollections: Standing on the Shoulders of a Giant' and Oisín Mac Conamhna ;From Sihtric to Sarsfield: Somes Aspects of Irish Numismatics, in Memory of Michael Dolley'.
