About
Ballyclare Old Presbyterian Church is the oldest church in the town, established in 1642. Having originally been a part of the mainstream Presbyterian tradition, our congregation moved into the non-subscribing Presbytery of Antrim in 1725. The Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland was established in 1910 and Ballyclare Old Presbyterian Church remains part of this rich, diverse and liberal Christian denomination to this day.
Whilst our building has been through various manifestations and changes throughout the years, we are fortunate to have retained a number of beautiful features from years gone by, including stained glass doors, wooden beams and we even still have the original church bell.
Our church also has strong roots in other aspects of the town's cultural heritage. The front of our building was a well known gathering spot in the town. It is the title of the well known local publication by Archibald McIlroy called 'The Auld Meetin'-Hoose Green'. Many of the stories in this 1898 publication feature persons from the congregation.
