About

My name is Ruairi . . . I was born and raised in Derry's Bogside, and I'm one of the city's longest established tour guides and resident red head! I'm an accredited and professional guide with 19 years' experience and have had the opportunity to guide thousands of visitors around my beautiful city and throughout the north of Ireland.

This is not just a job to me, my biggest passion is home. I love to talk about this place and share what our great country has to offer.

"Tá grá agam don teanga." I love the Irish Language! I'm a fluent Irish speaker and was one of the first generation of children to be educated through the medium of Irish in the city during the modern language revival in the North of Ireland. I have a great love and passion for Gaelic culture and my tours usually end up in a seisiún or two!

My tours focus on our countries history, culture, and politics but I also put across my own personal experience having grown up during "the troubles" in the north of Ireland.

I offer a range of tours of the city of Derry, including specialized tours of the Bogside area. This area has been directly involved in many of the key events of the 'Troubles', including Bloody Sunday, the Battle of the Bogside and the Hunger strikes. In more recent years the Bogside has been transformed into a modern, vibrant estate and the famous political murals of the 'Bogside Artists', which chronicle the history of the conflict, have made the area the most popular visitor attraction in the city.

I will explain the history of the area in detail and can offer a unique insight into the ongoing peace process by providing the opportunity for groups to engage with leading political figures who were directly involved in bringing the troubles to an end.

I cant wait to meet you! I hope after your time with me, you come to love my country as much as me!
