It’s hard to imagine a more inviting spot than the Craft Village. Quaint 18th century streets, a 19th century square, a totally Dickensian setting that houses 70 local crafters, restaurants and coffee shops. Fine art prints, jewellery, glass, silks, tweed and knitwear live side by side with delicate soaps and scented candles. Edel McBride is here too, the Aran knitwear designer who’s a hit with both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Before you leave, make time for a cuppa in The Cottage Craft Gallery and Coffee Shop to enjoy tasty, homemade, local produce in a traditional white-washed Irish cottage.
One thing Derry-Londonderry’s not short of is options. High street stores abound, many located in the plentiful local shopping centres. Foyleside is home to over 50 top stores, including M&S, River Island and Topshop. With over 40 stores, Richmond Shopping Centre is the place to go for JD Sports, Argento, New Look and lots more. Quayside Shopping Centre you’ll find many favourite local names and the Quays Bistro Grill.
Time for some of Derry-Londonderry’s hidden treasures; The Gift Box is the place to go for exclusive Celtic jewellery, handbags and glassware. Foyle Books sell both new and second-hand books – some of them dating back 300 years.
A favourite with locals, Above and Beyond the Warehouse, a listed building beside the Guildhall, sells everything from local crafts to locally produced artisan foods.
There’s no better way to round off your day than with a visit to the superb Browns in Town restaurant for some creatively seasonal cooking.
Just 30 miles east of Derry-Londonderry, Coleraine turns up some unexpected surprises. If you’re a lover of vintage-style you’ll fall for Daisy Mae boutique. Specialising in reproducing vintage looks in clothing, footwear and accessories, Daisy Mae conjures up timeless charm for a modern age.
If you’re planning on extending for a little longer, Derry-Londonderry has a range of top hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs, all within easy reach of your shopping destinations.
You’re guaranteed a friendly, local welcome at the boutique Station B&B, the only 4* B&B in the city.
For hotels in the city centre, try the exquisite 4* Bishops Gate, boutique 4* Shipquay or riverside 4* City Hotel. Or get a little shut-eye at the 4* Maldron, 3* Holiday Inn Express or the 5* Palace Street Apartments. On the outskirts of the city you will find the 4* Everglades Hotel.
These just some of the many shopping highlights of a trip to this warm and vibrant city – where there’s always more in store.
