The former Georgian House in Newtownards, now the home of the Arts Centre, was designed by Stratford in 1765 and completed in 1770. The ground floor was originally an open space where the market was held with access through six archways. On the east side of the central arch there was a gaol which still exists today. The townspeople were presented with the Market House by the sixth Marquis of Londonderry in 1897. Upstairs, the main function room, with fine plasterwork cornices, is available for hire for small scale events (up to 100 people).

Hosted by the Ards Arts Committee, Ards Arts holds exhibitions, performances, art classes and lectures. Details on performing arts events hosted by Ards Arts are also available from the Centre, as is information on visual art exhibitions on display. Tickets for all performing arts events can be reserved by calling into the centre or by telephoning during opening hours or via website.
