Dan Winters house

About

Dan Winter's House has been in the Winter family for over 300 years, they were farmer weavers also of the Quaker faith. The family moved from to a new dwelling in 1953 leaving the original furniture and clothing including the old family chair said to be of French origin and the 1903 family pram, these are on display with relics from the Battle of the Diamond. The house was repaired and re-thatched in 2000 using hand made mud brick, keeping all original artifacts, the original roof timbers, sods and wooden pegs to hold the main beams together, these can be seen through the ceiling hatch. The old scullery has been repaired to display the butter making equipment and pictures of the restoration in 2000. Vintage farming machinery on display in the farmyard also vintage cars and Post Office van. The original old 4 cow byre and adjoining outhouse have been re-thatched in 2014 again keeping all original timbers and old thatch.
