About
The City Club in Armagh was established in 1917 by a group of local businessmen and public servants as a gentlemen's club at 5 Charlemont Place on the Mall in Armagh. The Club provided a relaxing atmosphere and facilities where gentlemen could escape the rigours of their busy lives to relax in the company of like minded souls. The Club provided an opportunity to play billiards and snooker, play cards, keep up to date reading a selection of daily newspapers and journals or to chat over a drink from the bar. A rule of the Club was that "no matters of politics be discussed".
The affairs of the Club are recorded in minute books dating back to 1917 which can be viewed in the Club and provide an insight into the Ritchie history of the organisation. A number of other artefacts, which include furniture, illustrations, photographs and trophies will be of interest of visitors. In the 1980's the Club relocated to more modest premises at 6 Beresford Row where all of the historical memorabilia of the original premises are retained.
As part of EHOD visitors will be guided through the rich history of the Armagh City Club.
