Staffed by Down District Council's Arts Team, the venue produces a busy programme of events and exhibitions all year round as well as the annual Performing Arts Summer Scheme Schools and the Newcastle Summer Season entertainment programme.

Down Arts Centre now boasts a craft shop specialising in the best of craft both regionally and abroad. Artists include Leigh Shepherd, Diane Lyness, Hazel Atkinson and artists from the Craft and Design Collective. Come in and collect that special gift or just a treat for yourself.

Craft Business in residence - Aine McKenna/ Ceramic Design
Following a degree in Fine and Applied Art from the University of Ulster Aine McKenna embarked on a Masters degree in Ceramic Design for manufacture at Staffordshire University in the heart of the potteries, Stoke on Trent. During this time Aine gained a placement with leading tableware manufacturer, Dudson Ltd. Upon graduation Aine worked for Royal Stafford and Poole pottery specialising in surface pattern.
Aine is now craft business in residence at DAC for the next two years with Craft NI and the Making it programme. She will be working on a number of innovative product lines, combining the manufactured and the handmade to create unique and decorative fine art ceramics.
