The Bank House Whitehead

This award winning shop, café and deli is found in the pretty Victorian/Edwardian village of Whitehead and is very much a destination in its own right. Winner of the Carrickfergus Business Awards 2017, the shop is home to lots of things you won’t find easily anywhere else, including quirky, unusual and beautiful local craft.

Awarded with the Taste of Ulster 2019, the Bank House café’s list of local suppliers reads like a Best of Northern Ireland – speciality coffee from local roastery Bailies, creamy yoghurt from Clandeboye, freshly baked muesli from Just Live a Little, meats full of flavour from Quails of Banbridge, preservative-free breads from McKees Bakery and tasty jam from Made in Belfast.

From the deli counter you can buy quality Irish cheeses not freely available in supermarkets. Salads are dressed with Broighter Gold rapeseed oil and Burren Balsamics vinegar. Irish Black Butter, North Coast Smokehouse salt, pepper and dulse, and Sea Sugar confectionary are also customers’ favourites.

Look forward to yummy breakfasts, elevenses, lunches and afternoon teas, cakes baked in-house and sandwiches freshly made from the deli counter. You will find yourself popping in at any time of the day, and on a warm day sitting in the beautifully landscaped café garden with the lifesize Willow Man and Horse pulling a plough, created by Welig Heritage Crafts. You can freely pick the garden herbs too! A light rock group plays on Wednesday afternoons, and a traditional Irish group plays on Friday afternoons. Family-friendly and dog-friendly, too.
