Glassdrumman Cottage

About

Glassdrumman Cottage is a traditional 19th century whitewashed farm cottage on top of a drumlin amid the rolling landscape of County Down in Northern Ireland. The cottage has recently been renovated to provide guests all the comforts of modern living whilst still retaining a period charm complete with antique furniture and paintings and is ideal for those who prefer the independence and individuality of a holiday home.

Glassdrumman Cottage has two bedrooms, one double and one twin, each with en suite bathroom, a fully fitted kitchen and a spacious living and dining area with wood burning stove and spiral staircase. In the upstairs gallery there is a wide screen TV, video and PS2 games console, and a computer with internet connection. French doors lead out onto a decked balcony with views over the surrounding countryside. The sunroom and gallery have a library of books, music CD’s, video’s, DVD’s and computer games. The cottage has a landscaped front garden with a stone BBQ and a picnic table. A paved area at the rear leads to a secret garden and access to a nature trail set in 2.5 acres of oak, ash and beech trees and an orchard of native Irish apple trees. Guests are encouraged to explore this area and discover the wild flowers and observe the native birds, which might including pheasants, hawks and buzzards.

Glassdrumman Cottage is approximately one mile outside Saintfield, a village in County Down with a population today of around 3000 people. Most of the buildings along the main street were built in the 18th century and although the village now caters for a modern society the original architecture is still visible. The village is home to many antique furniture shops as well as bars, restaurants, local butchers, bakers, green grocers, flower shops, wine merchants, and gift shops. The National Trust Rowallane Gardens are located on the outskirts of the village on the road to Downpatrick.
