About

Experience a world of elegance, tranquility, and refined pleasures amid the splendour of an 1864 Victorian Scottish Baronial Castle and its estate.  Fill your days with adventures or leisurely pursuits - the choice is yours.  Gilford Castle is a beautifully restored mansion set in over 200 acres of bucolic parkland and mature woodlands through which the River Bann runs.  It exudes timeless elegance, characterised by its grand, multi-gabled facade, intricate stonework, and stately turrets.  As you approach the estate via a sweeping drive, you enter a world of seclusion and gentle grandeur.  The castle's interiors feature beautifully conserved period details - high ceilings embellished with original filigreed plasterwork, opulent fittings, and idiosyncratic vestiges of a bygone era of aristocratic splendour.  During your stay, the entire estate is yours to enjoy.

Accommodation briefly comprises entrance hallway, grand hallway, drawing room, library, dining room and gentlemen's lounge along with ten ensuite bedrooms each of which has it's own unique story connecting it to the past and present.

The Castle is richly appointed for your entertainment, cultural pursuits, and hobbies.  It is an ideal space for private recitals with superb acoustics, creating a serene atmosphere for both listening and performing.  The dining room is a setting of timeless elegance for refined, locally sourced cuisine where you can host a grand banquet or enjoy an intimate dinner.  Contemplate or converse over a glass of fine whisky while listening to the crackling fire.

The Castle is steeped in history and each custodian throughout it's years has had a tale to tell from Benjamin Dickson the original owner being a linchpin in the McMasterson-Dunbar Mill in the village and later setting up the Thomas Ferguson Mill in Bnbridge which is one of the last working mills in the area.....to Katherine Carlton who moved into the Castle in the early 1900's who was both an auctioneer and prize bull rearer.....to the last custodians, the Wright family who had connections to the original HSBC in Manilla and more recently Catherine Wright the local artist who started life out as a Millner in London after she completed university and later became a mechanic during the world war.....
