An Art & Garden Lover's Hideaway

About

You may not find a more intimate and aesthetically absorbing home in Northern Ireland.

It is actually 2 adjacent houses that were joined in 2000 by a small link area that enables each side to be private when needed. We believe strongly that inside and outside spaces should relate seamlessly; outside you will find a beautiful wildlife garden (awarded 'best small country garden in NI' by Belfast Telegraph in 2014); inside you may be intrigued by the hand-painted furniture, gold leaf decoration and unpredictable colour schemes. If you are looking for a formula, this is not the place! If you enjoy art, peace, gardens and nature, you will love it here. We have hosted all manner of interesting guests, and everyone loves the feeling of peace and the profusion of colour here.
As a bonus, you can watch HD movies on the 8' screen in your own cinema, and bathe in the privacy of your own outdoor hot tub, heated to 39 degrees.

Butterflies and bees abound in summer, and the pond is heaving with frogs and newts. The garden is planted in a naturalistic way with wildlife friendly plants, trees, and roses. In June, there’s Laburnum blossom, and wisteria wraps right around the house, with lupins and oriental poppies. But there is always something in flower most of the year. It is always in motion (and thus always needing attention.)

Hot water in the house is supplied by solar panels, at least when it's light. We rarely have to use the alternative oil heating between April and October.

Breakfast materials (fresh-made bread, butter, eggs, milk, marmalade, cereals) are provided when you arrive. You are welcome to cook whatever you like in the kitchen. There is a gas hob + an efficient table top oven and also microwave and good pots/utensils as well as a fridge, toaster, coffee makers etc. The kitchen is well equipped. I like to provide basics like oils, sugar, spices, teas, ground coffee etc so you don't need to bring these things.
