About
Welig Heritage Crafts produce traditional willow basketry, bespoke baskets, sculptural pieces and public art; garden ware, living willow installations and rustic furniture. We also undertake other traditional countryside skills including chair seating, drystone walling and hedge laying. We provide training and are available to demonstrate many of our skills including basket making, pole lathe turnery, spoon carving and other coppice crafts at public events and for groups where appropriate.
We also manage Hands on Workshops which is a community of tutors offering a wider range of crafts and
skills that we can offer alone, see www.handsonworkshops.org.uk
A visit to our workshop enables visitors to see traditional crafts alongside contemporary sculpture. We grow much of our materials on site including around fifty varieties of willow, hazel and many other trees for our work. Welig Crafts is a member of the Basket Makers’ Association, The Irish Basket Makers Association and the Hedge laying Association of Ireland. It is also a member of the Crafts Council of Ireland, the Craft and Design Collective and Ards Arts Collective.
Elaine has won two awards at the R.D.S National Crafts Competition and continues to exhibit her work both locally and further afield.
