About
Become a GAA expert, from learning its history to learning how to play with this fun, action-packed, craic-filled experience!
For those with an interest in GAA, this one-of-a-kind experience will ensure you maximise your cultural visit to County Down. Lace up your boots, or runners, for an immersive experience in an area that is one of Northern Ireland’s football, hurling and camogie strongholds.
In the year 1960, Down became the first Northern Irish county to win an All-Ireland Final. This win had a huge impact on the history of the games inside and out of the county, and inspired the classes of ’61, ’68, ’91 and ’94. The latter two years are when your experience mentors wrote their names into history, Ross Carr and DJ Kane, Down GAA royalty. Under their instruction, in a laid back session, you’ll learn the rules of Gaelic football and the basics of playing - from how to solo, hand-pass, kick-pass, take your score and more. Plus, you'll also get to try your hand at all the basic hurling skills too! You’ll be taught all about the GAA’s history over tea and coffee, and there's plenty of craic to be had with these inspirational men.
The day begins with a pick up, if required, from Denvir’s Coaching Inn. From there you’ll be brought to an actual GAA pitch and complete the skills session before any lessons. Depending on the package you go for you’ll get to enjoy a tasty lunch, a pint (or drink equivalent), and three course dinner. You’ll even be given a commemorative gift signed by your two legendary teachers on the day to remember the experience with. For any sports fan, history buff or fun-loving person or group, this experience shouldn't be missed.
