About

Join the warm and welcoming Bakehouse cookery school for a bread- and gin-making masterclass.

A former nurse, Bronagh Duffin founded this small cookery school just outside the village of Bellaghy years ago, and it has gone from strength to strength. Today it offers a unique class where you bake bread while infusing a jar of gin exactly to your tastes.

On arrival, Bronagh will have a range of treats and refreshments ready for you to enjoy. Then you'll be brought through the basics of bread-making, from stirring and kneading to choosing what goes into your loaf to make it truly one-of-a-kind.

Bronagh's a dab hand at different types of bread, and can show you how to make soda bread, cheese and scallion loaf, or delicious Guinness loaf – whatever you fancy.

As your dough rises, Bronagh will lead you on a journey of the surrounding area to forage for seasonal berries, sloes, and other botanicals to make your gin come to life – just remember to wrap up well!

Back in the warmth of the Bakehouse, you'll be shown how to feed gin and sugar to your little harvest in sterilised glass jars for a taste that's perfectly suited to your palate. Then as your pickings start to infuse, it's time to take your freshly baked loaf out of the oven and tuck into it while it's still warm, smother it with local butter and dunk it into a delicious bowl of homemade soup. Bronagh definitely knows how to make you feel like a member of the family.

With what's left of your bread and gin to take home, you'll have great-tasting mementos of your time at the Bakehouse as well as lots of new skills and knowledge.
