About
On entering the main building you will be welcomed by your guide, who will be a current or past County GAA player. They’ll bring you to the presentation hall, where there's lots of fascinating memorabilia on display.
Your guide will point out some favourites and share stories behind many of the pieces. This is a very individual experience. You might hear stories of a family’s prowess over the generations, a tale of former glories or of what might have been.
Next, the ins and outs of the GAA’s tiered system will be explained to you. You’ll hear about the origins of the GAA, about the club championships and the county ones - plus the route to the ultimate show-down: the All-Ireland finals.
Your guide will also bring you on a quick tour of the history of the sports themselves. Did you know that hurling can be traced back to the time of the legendary Irish hero Cuchulainn and the warriors of the Navan fort? In fact it’s said that this was how the strength of those warriors was tested.
After that you'll make your way then to the media room, which provides a perfect view of the grounds. Then it’s off to the changing rooms. Here you’ll learn about the various traditions the players follow, as well as some of their strange superstitions! You’ll find out about the atmosphere in the room on match day too. And just to make sure you understand about that atmosphere, you’ll be given the Manager’s special pep talk. Brace yourself for some motivating words!
As you head through the players’ tunnel and out onto the pitch, try not to be distracted by Armagh’s famous cathedrals on the skyline: it’s time for your training session! You’ll get a demonstration of the skills that players need to make it to county level, including the art of swiftly lifting a football from the ground, soloing, hand-passing and how to use a sliotar (hurling ball) and a hurl (hurling stick).
Training complete, it's time to put your new found skills to the test. Have you got what it takes to be a GAA hero? Take a shot at goal and find out. Finally, team photos are taken, and regardless of your individual performance, there’s shiny silverware for posing with too!
