About
In this high-octane experience, Josephine focuses on two elements of the tradition: the dance master and the phenomenon of dancing at the crossroads.
From the middle of the 17th century, charismatic dance masters would travel from village to village in Ireland. Dressed in brightly coloured clothes and carrying a staff, they would teach dancing to the local people. Later, the tradition of gathering after the harvest at a crossroads for a dance became established.
Breathing new life into these traditions, Josephine weaves her magic through a fully interactive, one-of-a-kind Irish dancing experience. Your experience begins with a welcoming cup of tea or coffee, along with a slice of traditional home-made barmbrack.
Then you will learn to master the dance steps for yourself - from traditional Sean Nos (old style) Irish dance to the iconic steps and movements of “Riverdance” and “Lord of the Dance” through which the teaching of the early dance masters lives on.
Your experience culminates in an Irish hooley (dance party) by the crossroads, set at the historic Down Cathedral and overlooking the beautiful Mourne Mountains. Here you will be greeted by a traditional musician who will provide live music to accompany your ultimate performance. The finale is a heart-soaring choreographed Irish dance-off. You’ll leave with an Irish dancing medal and certificate as a memento. Congratulations – you’ve mastered the dance!
