About
The Congregation was founded in 1713 and the present building was constructed in 1787 during the ministry of Rev Dr Moses Neilson.
The T-shaped building is a fine example of an early Ulster Barn Church with original fielded panel pews. There are three internal galleries, each accessed by external steps. Between 2000 and 2002 extensive restoration work was carried out on the building to ensure the many original features were preserved for future generations.
In 1768 the Rademon Academy was founded by Rev Dr Moses Neilson. The Academy prepared students for University and was open to students from all denominations. Rev Dr Neilson also collected ancient Irish tales and worked with his son on an Irish grammar book.
The Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church of Ireland is a small but significant denomination with a historical witness to liberal Christianity. Although a separate denomination in its own right, it has no exact parallel with any other church outside Ireland and may best be understood in relation to Irish Presbyterianism, within which tradition it had its origins and with which it still retains a deep affinity.
