About
Explore a world deep underground where no natural light exists with Cave Explorer and Visual Storyteller Robert Mulraney.
A Shot In The Dark is a practical photography session where basic cave photography techniques will be demonstrated. It is designed for those wanting to spend time in the showcave taking photographs and getting to grips with the unique and challenging photographic conditions.
Under the guidance of Robert, you will explore the showcave as he reflects on his underground photography and caving experiences. You will be given opportunities to photograph at various locations throughout the 1.2 miles of showcave passages (the session will take place along the footpaths in the show cave) with guidance from Robert to help you achieve those magical shots!
You will need to wear sturdy comfortable footwear and please dress for your temperature comfort level (coat, fleece, gloves, hat etc) as the temperature in the cave is 9-10 degrees. When you are standing around taking photographs you will find the cave environment cold.
If you have access to your own equipment such as cameras and tripods (and protection for your equipment- carry bags) we encourage you to bring it along so you can practise while receiving guidance. We shall provide a selection SLR Cameras with tripods which all participants will have an opportunity to try during the session.
These sessions are intended for anyone with an interest in photography of any standard. You don't need to be an experienced photographer to join this session. This session is private, so you can relax with no more than 15 people in a group. Space is limited and advanced booking through the Marble Arch Caves is required. This event is non-refundable and photographs taken during this session are not permitted for commercial use.
