Tourism Northern Ireland Virtual Sales Activity Support 

We're keen to ensure that Northern Ireland remains front of mind during this transitional/pre recovery phase in global tourism. In 2019, tourism in Northern Ireland passed the £1b economic impact mark for the first time ever, delivering record spend and record visitor numbers. This was closely linked with the launch of the Experience Brand, Northern Ireland Embrace a Giant Spirit, the coming on stream of over £500m in the accommodation sector and Northern Ireland hosting The 148th Open Championship in Royal Portrush in 2019.  

Tourism Northern Ireland seeks to support tour operators and DMCs deliver virtual sales activity with 2 options available: 

1:  Virtual Sales Mission / Virtual Fam Trips* 

*These titles are interchangeable but essentially equate to the same activity and end objective – to raise awareness of Northern Ireland and support future programming.  

Tourism NI will support Tour Operators or DMC’s to deliver Virtual Fam Trips or Virtual Sales Missions to overseas clients. This virtual activity, delivered through a suitable video platform, will seek to showcase Northern Ireland’s offering to the particular end client. This is essentially a targeted Northern Ireland sales presentation to qualified buyers providing NI industry opportunities. 

  • A minimum of 3 Northern Ireland trade partners must participate (one may be a Tourism NI representative to deliver an overview if required).  

  • There should be a minimum of 5 overseas clients in attendance.   

A flat rate of £3,000 will be offered for this activity based on achieving the above objectives and adhering to the Terms and Conditions as outlined below.

Variations of the above will be considered on a case by case basis.  

2: Other Virtual Sales Activity 

Other virtual sales activity will be considered on a case by case basis. Examples of this activity could include but not be limited to – virtual site inspections for upcoming programmes, experiential showcase opportunities such as a “ Cook a long” or the provision of a Northern Ireland themed gift to sit alongside a virtual sales presentation.  

Support for this activity will be based on the provision of vouched expenditure up to a maximum of £3,000.

Terms and Conditions: 

  • This is a pilot programme and will be in place until 31 March 2021 or until notified otherwise. 

  • Activity must take place pre 31 March 2021.  

  • Application should be through the Virtual Sales Activity Support Request Form as per above. 

  • You should not incur any costs until approval for the activity is received in writing from Tourism NI’s Business Solutions Team.  

  • A full list of end client participants must be provided to TNI in advance with profiles.  

  • All invoices should be submitted by 31 March 2021 and should quote the relevant Tourism NI Purchase Order reference. 

  • Where appropriate, a recording of the session should be provided as the back-up evidence along with the invoice.  

  • DMC/Tour Operator will be asked to provide KPI’s for a post event evaluation prior to payment being issued.  

  • Any costs should be incurred should be done so in the most economical way. 

  • This support applies to the promotion of Northern Ireland only. Only Northern Ireland tourism businesses should be invited to participate and content should only be related to Northern Ireland.  

  • A member of the Tourism Northern Ireland Business Solutions team must be invited to attend the activity – either in a participatory or observation role. 

  • Double funding for this activity is not permitted – including support from other tourism agencies such as Failte Ireland, Visit Britain or Tourism Ireland or other organisations such as ITOA or IGTOA. 

  • DMC /TO should be members of ITOA or other such industry body and should be in business for minimum of 3 years.  

  • If for some reason outside of the control of the Tour Operator / DMC, the activity needs to be cancelled, every attempt should be made to postpone and reduce any cancellation fees.  

  • A maximum of one application per DMC / TO is permitted. Any  additional requests will be considered on a case by case basis.  


During the recruitment/selection process, each DMC / Tour Operator must ensure that participants are made aware of the requirement to share the below data with Tourism Northern Ireland: 

  • Participant name 
  • Business name 
  • Country of origin 
  • Email address 

This information will be used to verify the participant’s attendance, and to allow Tourism NI to gain useful insights into the success of the virtual sales support being provided.
