About

This 10 metre long ceramic-clad fish has adorned Belfast's Donegall Quay since 1999, commissioned to celebrate the regeneration of the River Lagan. The sculpture was created by John Kindness, a local multimedia artist famed for his unusual, humorous and quirky pieces.

The mosiac-esque ceramic casing of the fish is decorated with imagery, excerpts and editorial about Belfast through the ages. Material from Tudor times intermingles with newspaper articles, historical pictures, drawings from local school children and modern day headlines. It makes The Big Fish a wonderful ode to the city and will keep you entertained for quite a while!

Extra Fact
The Big Fish also contains a time capsule – storing information, images and poetry about the Belfast.
