About
Working from Elements Studio in Downhill, McCall Gilfillan is well known as an art and craft tutor in everything from ceramics to kiln fire glass and mosaics and has worked with a wide variety of sculpture projects and installations for charities and community groups. She particularly enjoys working with mental health groups.
Her latest work encompasses her love of sculptural ceramics and oil painting. Her pieces are designed as objects of contemplation, exploring the patterns of formation and erosion on the geological textures on the Causeway Coast.
"For me, creativity is a way of living, sometimes a means of surviving, always a way of sharing. My mediums move primarily between ceramics, glass, and paint," McCall says.
"I am drawn to explore texture and the effect of time on surfaces. I try to create art to live with and touch life-enhancing pieces that connect to the environment and heritage of these islands.
"My inspiration is drawn from the coastline and legends of this place I call home. Inspiring creativity in others is integral to my life as an artist. I love to teach and hopefully inspire others to live more fully through their creativity."
