Denis’ work is very diverse and includes themes like music, sport (especially angling and horse racing), farming, landscape in a broad sense, opera, and the work of Old Masters. Work also includes portraiture & still life. Approaches may be fairly literal or more abstracted, loose/expressive or carefully controlled as the subject demands.
Commissions form a substantial part of Denis’ work, and such requests are always welcome.

Technically, he favours oil on canvas, watercolour, pen and watercolour, pen and wash, pastels, and graphite pencil, and may use some or all of these in developing a theme. ‘Music & Musicians’, and work influenced by visits to Italy, for example, are each treated in a variety of styles. The musician theme is mostly to do with the playing of music i.e. the relationship between person, instrument and the tune being played.

Being an angler, Denis’ landscapes often depict those magical rivers and loughs of Ireland which he has had the pleasure to fish, and sometimes he attaches artificial fishing flies associated with a particular water, on the painting/print mount. (A client’s own flies may be included as an alternative.)

His prints are high quality Giclée prints on watercolour paper, limited edition of 100, signed, mounted on acid free board & backing, & packaged in sealed cellophane bag for protection.
