1. High energy enjoyment

Kick off at Todd’s Leap activity centre, where the family experience lets you choose as many activities as you want from the 20 on offer. 2. Blessingbourne biking

If you want to bring the dog with you on your family weekend, the place to head for is Blessingbourne Country Estate in Fivemiletown. 3. Evening eats

4. Pony trekking

Dry off and saddle up for a spot of horse-riding through Tyrone’s lush countryside. There are numerous riding schools and stables that offer treks for beginners or more experienced riders. The Forest Stables in Fivemiletown has a river trail while Horse Holiday Farm in Castlederg offers trekking along miles of sandy beaches.

5. Off to Omagh

Head back to Omagh, Tyrone’s county town, to end the day with a meal and a movie. Popular Pizzarama is perfect for an inexpensive fast food meal but if you want more variety head to Grants or Philly’s Phinest, both noted for their excellent steaks and burgers. Then it’s off to IMC Omagh cinema for a relaxing evening in front of the big screen.


6. Ulster American Folk Park

Visit the Ulster American Folk Park, which tells the story of centuries of Irish emigration to America. Step back into eighteenth-century Ulster and see the buildings and streets as they were before passing through the life-sized emigrant ship to emerge on the streets of America. Along the way there’s the chance to help the blacksmith, chalk up a lesson in the old schoolhouse and grab a photo opportunity dressed up in period costume.

7. Picnic at Gortin Glen

A picnic in Gortin Glen at the western gateway to the Sperrin Mountains is a great way to end the family getaway weekend. Follow a waymarked trail through the beautiful countryside and then let the children loose on the wooden play sculpture before enjoying a generous picnic.
