The French Rooms

About

At the heart of the village of Bushmills and just 2 miles from the Giant’s Causeway the French Rooms is described in Georgina Campbell’s Best of the Best Ireland Guide as “easily the most elegant and stylish restaurant on the Causeway Coast."

A traditional Normandy stone fireplace sets the tone as you enter this pleasantly relaxed and informal licensed restaurant in the village that is home to the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery. A friendly team delight in welcoming guests from all over the world and serving French inspired, traditionally prepared and elegantly presented fresh local dishes. You’re very welcome.

Chef/Patron Stella Bolton has an enviable restaurant pedigree – her grandmother was born in the world famous Moran’s Seafood Restaurant outside Galway. Stella ‘emigrated’ to the North Coast in 1992, fell in love with an Ulsterman and never looked back. Her restaurant is imaginatively designed, with the help of husband Roy, who creatively developed the nearby Bushmills Inn Hotel from near dereliction in 1987. The French Rooms features zinc topped tables, hide away ‘snugs’, a Petite Salon with a cosy open fire, a semi private area affectionally known as the ‘Moulin Rouge’ and, most important of all, delicious food.

Brunch is served from 11 am to 2:30 pm Thursday to Sunday and dinner from 5:30 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings. With limited opening hours reservations are especially recommended and can be made online: www.thefrenchrooms.com

Brunch includes French bistro classics like Eggs Benedict, Croque Monsieur and Tarte flambée – a popular Alsace dish, with a base similar to the Italian pizza but thin and not normally round.

Dinner could feature Suprême of Guinea Fowl with a creamy forest mushroom sauce or Cajun French Sea Bass with our house made spiced Cajun rub, Tarte Tatin’, a traditional French apple dessert and to complete your evening what about a French Rooms classic - ‘Ma Cool’s Shake’ - creamy vanilla ice cream whipped with Bushmills whiskey - to die for! Bon appétit.
