Ballylagan Organic Farm

12 Ballylagan Road, Ballyclare, County Antrim, BT39 9NF
Ballylagan Organic Farm

Ballylagan Organic Farm was the first farm in County Antrim to achieve organic certification from the Soil Association in the early nineties. Shortly after, we became the first in Northern Ireland to open an organic shop outlet which over the years has grown from farm gate sales to a thriving marketplace.

The original shop was officially opened by HRH the Prince of Wales in May 1999.

Other areas of the farm are continually developing and in November of 2011 we welcomed the first patrons to our new Tea Room. From a simple scone and a cup of tea or coffee to a delicious lunch, we aim to demonstrate that eating organic is not a ‘hair shirt’ experience but a pleasure. All the food is prepared on site with organic ingredients, frequently making use of produce grown on farm.

The Farm Shop is the sole outlet for all our home grown produce; beef, pork, bacon, eggs, seasonal fruit and vegetables, jams and chutneys. To augment our own home grown produce, we buy in a range of fruit and vegetables every week from our organic wholesaler in England. We stock (almost) everything you could possibly need to live an organic and sustainable lifestyle. Our grocery selection is large, everything from baking ingredients, to premium quality chocolate, pasta and rice to tinned soup. The chilled and frozen section stocks all manner of dairy products including milk, cheese and ice cream. We also have a wide selection of frozen vegetables and ready to cook meals. In our household section there is a large array of environmentally friendly cleaning products, and on a more personal level we stock a range of organically certified soaps, shower gels, shampoos and lotions.

After indulging in the Tea Room or food shopping our customers are welcome to take a stroll along our farm trail. This 1km walk takes in the intake structure to a hydro power scheme, which generates much of the electricity we use on the farm. Also look out for new arrivals such as lambs and piglets.
