The Garden Cafe

About

Dine out with a spectacular view at Downpatrick’s only roof top terrace with a stunning garden backdrop.

Enjoy the finest freshly cooked food using the finest local ingredients in Downpatrick’s hidden gem. The Garden Café boasts a bright and spacious space both inside and out in a picturesque setting.

Located on the first floor of the Saint Patrick Centre the café offers a range of freshly cooked food for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. With gourmet coffees, delicious soups, fresh salads, deli sandwiches and daily hot specials there is something to suit every palate. Our sumptuous fresh pastries, cakes and homemade lemonade are also very popular.

You will find a friendly and welcoming environment and be impressed by the fact that 100% of your money changes people’s lives.

The Garden Café is a social enterprise operated by award winning charity Stepping Stones NI. All profits are reinvested back into supporting adults with a learning disability in Downpatrick.

You will be greeted with the warmest of County Down welcomes from our staff and trainees. Our trainees are supervised by experienced catering staff who provide one-to-one training in food service and preparation. The café serves as a realistic training platform for our trainees. We believe in providing the highest quality training to result in the highest quality food and service for our customers. Customer feedback has been excellent since we opened our doors in April 2015 with visitors from across the world commenting on their enjoyable experience with delicious food and excellent value for money.

Our food is a mix of traditional and modern fare. Daily specials include our seafood chowder, irish stew, pastas, quiche and pies. Everything we serve is homemade and cooked freshly to order.

With a private function room we can cater for large groups and corporate hires and create menus for a special event.

Enjoy a quiet moment sipping over a speciality tea or gourmet coffee in the spectacular surroundings of our flower and herb garden. Alternatively, take time out for breakfast or lunch with panoramic views of Downpatrick and Down cathedral. Real feel good food.

The café has lift access, a children’s play area and free wifi with lots of space to relax.

A large parking facility is available directly at or front door and we are two mins walk from the Ulsterbus terminal.

Access Down Cathedral and Saint Patrick’s trail through our garden or discover the heritage of Saint Patrick at the visitors centre on the ground floor. Enquire directly about discounted rates for the Saint Patrick Centre and Lunch.

For ‘Game of Thrones’ fans we are a short drive from Inch Abbey, Audley’s Castle and Castle Ward and you can even experience your own ‘Game of Thrones’ themed lunch!
