General information

Peaceful Connections - WW2 Nissen Hut For EHOD 2019

The event will be held in 'The hut' as it is known locally. It is a Nissan hut which came to Meigh village in 1946 to be used as a changing room by St Monnina's Gaelic Football Club Killeavy.

It came from the Greenfield Airforce base in Kilkeel and housed American soldiers during the World War II. It became a community hub for many years. Local Ring of Gullion Ambassador has revived over the last few years and hosts various events including guided tours, meditation workshops, Ceilis, birthday parties, meetings and special events including fundraising events. Her vision is for 'the hut' to be a creative hub and is hosting its first art exhibition as part of European Heritage week. Local artist Euphemia Murphy will showcase an exhibition designed especially for this September event. It is called 'Peaceful Connections' and all the paintings are of trees on Slieve Gullion. These will include water colour, ink and acrylic.
