The tranquil setting of Enniskillen Castle will see a hustle of families and foodie lovers sampling local produce and enjoying the tranquil setting of the River Erne. From live cookery demos from chefs and experts to entertainment on the bandstand, it’s set to be a fun weekend for all the family.

Enniskillen Castle will be transformed into a food village oozing with the smells and sounds of local produce being prepared and shared throughout the weekend. Grab a seat at the designated picnic area and enjoy a selection of food and drink as you listen to live entertainment and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the festival hub.

The food village will comprise of 4 main zones;

The Theatre of Food - The theatre of food is a showcase area where some of the best local chefs will demonstrate their culinary skills and recreate some of their restaurant favourites using local ingredients. This is an opportunity to learn about produce available locally and how to best prepare fine dishes at home. Recipe cards will be available online so you know exactly where to source everything you need and all dishes will be available throughout the area as part of the festival food trail. Visitors can keep an eye out for celebrity chefs appearing too!

The People’s Produce Market - The People’s Produce Market is an inviting hive of thriving food and craft producers. Visitors are invited to come in and explore the array of unique, delicious and talented creations on display available to sample, sip and purchase.

The Street Feast (NEW) - The Street Feast is a vibrant, bustling avenue of street food vendors with producers using locally grown and sourced ingredients to create authentic international cuisine. Try delicious Greek potatoes, Spanish paella and of course an Irish beef burger as well as sweet treats such as ice cream or cakes ‘n’ shakes.

The Lough Erne Inn (NEW) - The Lough Erne Inn will quench your thirst from a converted horsebox. It is a welcoming rest stop to enjoy a pint of locally produced cider, try a craft beer taster tray or sip a modern twist on a classic gin cocktail. Whatever your favourite tipple, pull up a seat in The Lough Erne Inn and catch up with friends and family at the heart of Festival Lough Erne.

The picture postcard image of Enniskillen’s medieval castle on the edge of its island banks is the venue and focal point for the event. A special guided tour ‘Farming, Food and Famine’ will take you through an eclectic collection of items from the ‘Fermanagh 100’ exhibition which charts the importance of Lough Erne in the provision of basic food requirements and why fishing became both a mode of employment and a popular pastime. Entry to the newly refurbished Visitor Centre and museums will be free all weekend.

Children and adults alike will find a mix of arts and crafts to try from sticking & painting to weighing and measuring to food preparation, all focused around the heritage of food and island life. A selection of home grown artists will provide musical and street entertainment throughout the weekend creating an authentic festival experience for all.

There will be a festival buzz on the water as well. Enniskillen Castle is located on the River Erne and visitors over the weekend will have the chance to try their hand at canoeing with Erne Paddlers or you can navigate your way around Enniskillen on a self-guided boat tour with Erne Boat Hire or relax on a tour of Lower Lough Erne with Erne Water Taxi.

New for 2019!

Fermanagh Gin Festival: This event will take place on the Friday night prior to the event opening. The event will showcase over 15 gins with our own The Boatyard Gin as the feature. The team from The Boatyard Distillery will do a demo on how the gin is created highlighting the benefits of the natural assets provided by their location on Lough Erne as well as how they work with other producers and suppliers across the region to produce such a high quality product which is sold across the world. This will be a ticketed event.

Tapas Cruise on board the Lovely Leitrim Barge: This is a unique opportunity for people to enjoy locally produced food whilst taking a tour of the Lough. Owners Mary and Jorn will welcome you onto their boat to enjoy a delicious selection of tapas all made with local ingredients. This will be a ticketed tour available to purchase during the festival. Cupcake Decorating: Bring the children along to try cupcake decorating with Lough Erne Cakes. Each child will be able to learn how to decorate their cupcakes and bring home to enjoy!

Cocktail Masterclass: Not forgetting the adults, this is just for you! Join The Giddy Box to learn how to make their Festival Special Gin Cocktail and some of your favourite tipples.

Enniskillen Taste Tours: This new tour invites visitors to experience a casual yet informative tour that offers an indulgent mix of food and drink. They will sample an array of premium products around Enniskillen island Town whilst getting up close and personal with local producers and suppliers. Throughout the journey they will hear from local food ambassadors as to how they are working together to continue to grow the sector in this area.
