Two best chippies in Northern Ireland named

15 October 2008 -

Despite fierce competition, the two best fish and chip shops in Northern Ireland have been named.

The Fish and Chicken Inn in Ballymena and the Galley in Newry are the best places to indulge in some traditional fish and chips in Northern Ireland and will now go forward to compete against other chippies from across the UK, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

As part of this process the two eateries will have their production quality, staff training, innovation, customer service and hygiene checked by judges.

Speaking to the newspaper, Brian Surgeon, manager of The Fish and Chicken Inn, said achieving this status recognises the hard work he and his staff have put in over the years.

"We deliver the best fish and chips time after time it’s great for our customers to know that they are getting the best in the area. We’ll be doing all we can to make sure we make it through to the next round," he added.

Meanwhile, Belfast restaurant James Street South was recently named among the top 100 restaurants in the UK, ranking 88th in Restaurant magazine's poll.
