Students host first intervarsity show jumping event

13 November 2008 -

A group of students from Ulster University have arranged the first ever show jumping intervarsity competition, adding to the list of events in Northern Ireland taking place this month.

In a bid to raise the profile of the university's equestrian club, the leisure, events and management students will face their counterparts from the Queen's University.

Fans of equine sport who plan to travel in Northern Ireland will not want to miss this display of skill, technique and elegance.

The competition will take place on Wednesday November 19th at Lessan's Riding School in Saintfield, County Down.

Meabh Cunningham, the organiser of the event, said it will provide people with the chance to show their abilities.

"Our main aim is to help raise the profile of the equestrian club at Ulster's Coleraine campus … this intervarsity competition is [a] great opportunity for riders at all levels to get the opportunity to compete," she said.

Equine fans who plan to travel in Northern Ireland could also be interested in visiting the Portmore Centre in Aghalee, outside Portadown, which has its own equestrian facilities.
