Pubs in Northern Ireland given prestigious awards

17 November 2009 -

A number of pubs in Northern Ireland's capital have been awarded with industry gongs in recognition of their good practise.

At an event in Belfast's City Hall, 19 bar staff from across the city were each given awards to mark their contribution to promoting responsible drinking in the area.

Councillor Pat McCarthy, chairman of Belfast City Council's health and environmental services committee, said the accolades are proof that the authority's schemes are contributing to a better city which is even more pleasant for tourists and locals alike.

Siofra O'Reilly, training and development manager with the Federation of Retailed Licensed Trade, added: "This is something we are very passionate about and we are really pleased by the commitment and buy-in there has been from the licensed trade to date."

Many of the pubs in Northern Ireland will be up for gongs at the Belfast Business Awards next year, which recognises local businesses that contribute to the city.ADNFCR-1859-ID-19464351-ADNFCR
