Public invited to Belfast tourism discussion

23 March 2009 -

The city of Belfast is to increase its focus on how tourism can benefit Northern Ireland's economy.

A major conference in the capital will bring a number of world-class speakers to the Elmwood Hall on March 25th to discuss the theme of 'harnessing cultural value in tough economic times'.

Marie-Louise Muir, from Radio Ulster, will be facilitating the day and guest speakers will include Paul Collard, who financed the landmark 'Angel of the North' outside Newcastle-on-Tyne, Wolfgang Buttress, the artist commissioned to produce the landmark sculpture 'Rise' at Broadway roundabout.

Greg Richards, who has worked on the development of cultural and creative tourism in Barcelona, Edinburgh and Amsterdam will discuss 'the public value of cultural events'.

The event is open to the public and a question and answer session with the speakers will provide an opportunity for involvement and discussion.

Belfast is currently hosting bus and boat tours exploring the city in the age of the Titanic and bringing to life the story of the ship and her two sisters, the Olympic and the Britannic.
