Photography 'will celebrate nature in Northern Ireland'

7 April 2009 -

Holidaymakers interested in nature in Northern Ireland will have a chance to take part in a photographic competition over the next two months.

Entitled Backyard Biodiversity, the event will encourage visitors to Londonderry, also known as Derry, to pay close attention to the region's wildlife.

The competition will run until May 29th and Derry Council Council is organising a free workshop on wildlife photography at Creggan Country Park on April 18th to get budding snappers started.

Julie Corry, the council's biodiversity officer, said: "If you don't have access to a garden why not get out and take a walk in many of your local parks to discover what wildlife you can find."

She added that pictures of a red squirrel in Prehen Woods or Learmount Forest, peacock butterflies in Brooke Park or a cormorant along Bay Road Park would all make good entries in the competition.

This Saturday (April 11th), the Ulster Wildlife Trust will be running an Easter egg hunt at Kilbroney Park.
